The Top of The World Road

If you look at map you can see that Dawson City is the end of the line, unless you take this little ferry, go 2 minutes across the Yukon and then go across

You would have thought they had a sale on 5th wheels, way more here than motorhomes

Cindy went on this road in 78' and swore she would never do it again, but things change and when she heard all these caravans were doing it, she said, well.....let's take the car first and see how it is, and then maybe let's take the motorhome, saves alot of miles this way

The road goes up and up and up, you begin to wonder if you are ever going to stop going up

This road is literally on the top of the world and rides the ridge all the way, made us think of the song, "I can see for miles and miles and miles......"

The road from the Yukon to Alaska is chipsealed and gravel in some places where they are working on it

We lose an hour between The Yukon and Alaska

At the US Border Patrol, one woman was very nice, even though Gracie barked at her, we asked her about beef in the motorhome and she said, she isn't suppose to allow Canadian beef in but what's she going to do with it, it's not like there's a deep freeze here

The worst part of this road is the 43 miles to Chicken, Alaska, it is all dirt road, until then

We are in Alaska, do we look like Sourdough dogs???? Mushers?????

The road immediately turns into a dirt road, with no semblance of gravel, asphalt, just an old dirt road that I bet is fun on a rainy day, but we are going to go down it with the motorhome, it is a long way back the other way, we'll just go slow

A clever use for a pick axe when the handle falls off, have to remember that

That's just what everyone needs drive up here, get a few drinks and get back on that road

This is the Top of the World, but nobody was here, they must have fallen off

There was a for sale sign on the door and we wanted to look inside but noone was home, we thought Dad and Timmy might like it

Nobody home so we turned around here and went back, we will go to Chicken when we come through here in our motorhome

Back to the border, but this time Canada, the woman made us wait until she hauled her garbage out to the garbage truck, and took care of her personal business, then she was pretty snippy when she told me that my passport wasn't signed and therefore wasn't official, I don't think those Canada Border Patrol like me

65 miles from the US border to Dawson City doesn't seem like much but it takes, on the average, 2 hours for an RV to travel that, with the condition of the road and going up, RV Caravans make the trip everyday

Back down or should I say up the road, to Dawson City

This is what is left of the snow, seems strange with all that sun that there is anything left

Most of the real bad parts of the road were flagged so you could move over or slow down, the frost heave, makes most of the bad spots, this road is not open in the winter

The top of the world looks slightly different coming back, some of the cliff edges were closer to the car, with no guardrails

This red wheat was everywhere

Fireweed is the official flower of the Yukon Territory

No line for the 24 hour free ferry on the way back, a 2 minute trip to cross the Yukon
