Day trip to Portage Glacier

It looks like it's going to be another rainy day in Anchorage so we decide to go 60 miles from Anchorage, to the start of the Kenai Penisula and see Portage Glacier The tide is out and you can see the tideflats if you look real close

The train follows the road alongside the water most of the way

It's a beautiful trip just going there

Cindy see's a carver and does a u turn to take a look

I didn't know that they had log building school

They could build me one for a school project

This is a campground where you can camp right under these glaciers, and just sit and watch them, they are too far away to do anything to you

They had just seen a Grizzly here

In the same area as Portage Glacier there are at least 9 other lesser known glaciers

This is Portage Glacier, when Cindy was last here 30 years ago the glacier was down past the little island, in front is a lake that was made by the glacier run off

These "calved" off of the glacier and are huge floating ice cubes in the lake, the blue color is because the water is packed so tightly

We left Portage Glacier and went on the Whittier, which is only a few miles on the other side of the mountain, I thought this was the tunnel we would go through, but I was wrong
